Getting started
How much does it cost to sign up?
Nothing: signing up is free. You only pay for consultations or a subscription, at the price your doctor sets.
How do I sign up?
With your email and a password. At your first consultation we ask for your personal details, including tax code and address: they are needed for the prescription and the invoice.
How do I connect with my doctor?
With their code or invitation link. If they are not on HeyDottore yet, invite them from your account, by WhatsApp, SMS or email, or we send the invitation for you. When they join, we let you know.
Can I use it from abroad?
Yes, but to pay you need an Italian tax code and an address in Italy. The doctors are registered in Italy and private prescriptions are valid in Italian pharmacies.
Consultations and prices
How much does a consultation cost?
Your doctor sets the price, and you see it before you write. You can pay for a single consultation or, if the doctor offers it, subscribe.
How does a subscription to my doctor work?
You pay a monthly fee, set by the doctor, and write to them as often as you like without paying for each consultation. It renews every month and you can cancel whenever you want, with no penalty. It helps if you need your doctor often: a chronic condition, a pregnancy, a nutrition plan.
When do I get a reply? What if it doesn’t come?
As soon as the doctor is available: it isn’t a real-time chat. For a single consultation they have 24 hours from payment to accept your question, then 48 to send the first reply. If they don’t, the consultation is cancelled and you get a full refund.
Can I cancel a consultation? When does it close?
Until the doctor has replied you can cancel it, with a refund. A single consultation closes by itself 7 days after payment, or earlier if the doctor closes it. It then stays in your archive; for a new question you open a new one.
How do I know the doctor has replied?
We send you an email and you find a notice in your account.
Prescriptions and documents
Can the doctor give me a prescription?
Yes, if they consider it appropriate: a private prescription, which you receive in the consultation. The pharmacist checks it with its code. It is not a National Health Service prescription: you pay full price for the medicine.
What can I attach?
Photos (JPG, PNG or WebP) and PDFs, such as reports and test results, up to 10 MB per file.
Where do I find my conversations?
In your archive: consultations stay there after they close, with attachments and prescriptions. You can request a copy of your data from Privacy → Data → «Download my data», and we email it to you.
Safety
How is my data protected?
Conversations travel encrypted, health data is stored on servers in the European Union and doctors sign in with two-step verification. Details, including providers, are in the Privacy Policy.
Can I write about something urgent?
No. HeyDottore is for questions that don’t need urgent care. In an emergency, such as chest pain or difficulty breathing, call 112 or 118 straight away.
For doctors.
Registration and checks
How do I register, and how long does it take?
For free: you enter your professional details and a person on our team checks your Medical Council registration, usually within 1-2 business days.
What do I need to be activated?
Your Medical Council registration and the details Stripe asks for your identity and payouts. At registration you declare that you hold professional liability insurance that also covers remote services. Before your first paid consultation you tell us about your relationship with the Italian National Health Service (under an SSN agreement, employed by the SSN, or none). Details are in the Terms for doctors, clauses 2.4 and 2.5.
I work under an SSN agreement: can I use it?
Yes, for private practice compatible with your relationship with the SSN. With your own SSN patients, however, you charge nothing for services covered by the agreement, such as advice and consultations (Terms for doctors, clause 2.5).
Costs, payouts and invoices
What does it cost?
Joining is free. Base: no monthly fee; a service cost applies to each paid consultation or collected subscription instalment. Premium: a monthly fee and a lower service cost. You find the figures for each plan in your area, before you choose it. No surcharge for the patient.
What is Pioneer?
The programme for the first doctors, with limited places: Premium with no monthly fee for 6 months, then a reduced fee, locked for as long as the subscription stays active. On collections the Premium service cost applies. Places are assigned when the profile is approved. Conditions in the Terms for doctors, clause 5.6.
How much do I keep from a consultation?
You see it in your area when you set your fee: next to the price is what you keep, before your taxes and contributions. Stripe costs are borne by HeyDottore.
When are payouts made?
On Fridays, to your account through Stripe, after the applicable hold: normally 7 days from the consultation’s closing.
Who issues invoices to patients?
HeyDottore, in your name and on your behalf, automatically for each completed consultation: you don’t issue them. We invoice you for the commission, the collection fee and any subscription. For VAT and tax regime, ask your accountant.
Consultations
How soon must I reply?
Accept or decline within 24 hours of payment for a single consultation, within 48 for a subscription consultation; then send the first reply within 48 hours. If the deadlines pass, the request is cancelled.
Can I decline a request?
Yes, before accepting it. The patient is refunded in full, automatically.
Can I prescribe medicines?
Yes, if you consider it appropriate: private prescriptions, signed in the consultation with two-step verification. The pharmacist checks them with their code. They are not National Health Service prescriptions: the patient pays full price for the medicine.
What about sick notes?
The platform does not generate sick-leave certificates at the moment. If you consider it appropriate, you can write one with your usual tools and attach it in the chat. The official INPS telematic certificate remains with the National Health Service doctor.
Patients and tools
How do I invite my patients?
With your personal code and link: from your area you send them by WhatsApp, SMS or email, or print the QR code for the waiting room. Whoever signs up from there is connected to you.
Do patients find me in search?
With Premium or Pioneer yes, if your profile is active and search visibility is on. With Base no: patients reach you through your link or code.
Can I reply from my phone?
Yes, from your phone’s browser or from a computer: nothing to install. New requests reach you by email.
Can’t find the answer? Write to us.
A person on our team replies, to patients and doctors. In an emergency don’t write to us: call 112 or 118.
The details are in the Terms for patients, the Terms for doctors and the Privacy Policy.
HeyDottore is a doctor-patient communication platform and is not a medical device. It does not replace an appointment. It is not for emergencies: if you have serious symptoms call 112 or 118.
